Terms of service

Scrub is free to download. Inspecting photos and running cleans are free, so you can see the app work — including the verified result — before paying anything. A single one-time in-app purchase (“Scrub Unlimited”), made through the Apple App Store (or Google Play, when available), permanently unlocks saving and sharing your cleaned copies. It is not a subscription and never renews. Your purchase grants a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on devices you own or control, under the store's standard licensed application terms. Updates we release are included.

Your photos are yours. Scrub processes them on your device at your direction and never receives a copy. You are responsible for the photos you choose to inspect, clean, or redact, and for how you use the results. Cleaned copies are saved as new files and your originals are left untouched — managing and backing up your photo library remains your responsibility.

Scrub removes the metadata it can read from supported formats and verifies each clean by re-parsing the output file. But no tool can guarantee anonymity. Metadata standards evolve, other apps and platforms may re-add data, visible image content can itself identify people and places, and redaction only hides what you choose to cover. Scrub is a strong layer of protection, not a substitute for judgment about what you share.

• Don’t use Scrub to alter photos or metadata for fraudulent, deceptive, or unlawful purposes — including falsifying evidence or misrepresenting the provenance of an image.
• Don’t reverse-engineer, resell, or redistribute the app except as permitted by law or the app store’s terms.
• Don’t attempt to disrupt or attack this website.

Purchases are processed by Apple and Google, and refunds are handled through them under their policies. If something is wrong with the app, email us at support@getscrub.app — we would rather fix the problem.

Scrub is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it will remove every piece of metadata in every file.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages — including lost data or damages arising from information disclosed by photos you share — arising from your use of the app or website. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the app.

We may update the app and these terms over time. Material changes to the terms will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms. We will never retroactively convert your one-time purchase into a subscription.

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the developer is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that state.
